John joined ABC ten years ago as he wanted to play for a club that valued its members, looked to develop the younger players to gain success, and had a family feel. Both of John’s children play for ABC and they are making their own way within the club.
John has helped in many aspects of club hockey, he has played, managed, coached and captained several Divisional teams. He has umpired where needed, as well as being a mentor to many younger players. As a high school teacher John is a good communicator with a positive attitude, he is supportive of every player in the team and has helped develop several players throughout the years.
John has a keen interest and partciular skills with goalkeeper coaching having learnt from one of the best goalkeeper coaches whilst in Europe. He has coached all levels of ability and experience, he recently joined Hockey NZ for a national goalkeeping weekend with the top players from around the country. Many of the players he has coached are playing in the recent NHC tournament in Dunedin. He regularly assists keepers for many of the men’s and women’s sides at ABC.
