Netesh in action for ABC
Netesh joined ABC in 2018 as an 18 year old. James spotted leadership qualities in him and immediately appointed him captain of the ABC Premier Men's team: a position he holds today. James said "Netesh has led this young team with calmness and maturity" and the team has progressively got better each year with essentially the same personnel and new young players pushing for places.
As well as captaining the Prems, Netesh coaches the Prem 2 team which allows for a seamless transition for players moving through the club. This year Netesh has also represented the Northern Tridents in the inaugural New Zealand Premier League of hockey, and he continues to be a leading light in the development of North Harbour youth, this year coaching the coaches of the year 9-11s and coaching an U18 men's side.
Playing for Northern Tridents
Hockey is in Netesh's DNA. Parents, Dilip and Vanita are ABC members and are still going strong in Division 2; sister Rasmika manages the Prem team and is on the ABC Social Committee; and brother Alesh captains the Prem 2 team. His extended family includes many representatives and others who have enjoy hockey at different ages across New Zealand.
Coaching Prem 2 with brother Alesh
He has coached at North Harbour Under 15 level for three years including being the lead coach of the 2019 Under 15 A team. He commanded respect with this group and built strong bonds with the players and he was particularly impressive in the way he built up the team's morale up after a setback in the quarter final - he rates this as his most satisfying achievement in coaching.
Teaching the basics
He has represented North Harbour from Under 11 level all the way through to NHL and many of the people he played with since Under 11 level remain active hockey players and form part of the ABC teams. He was a key part of the Westlake 1st XI between 2015 and 2017.
Away from hockey Netesh is busy studying for a commerce degree in Management and Innovation.
