Tonya Botherway reaches 100 cap milestone

"It feels like yesterday that I started playing for ABC, so it seems crazy that I just played my 100th cap for the club. I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old. My mum was my influence to start playing hockey because she ran the local hockey club and played growing up but had to stop due to injuries at the age of 15.

I joined ABC in 2014. Keri Dempster was a key reason for me joining ABC as my aunties played with her for Birkenhead. Due to my mum knowing who Keri was and her reputation as a hockey player and coach, she encouraged me to join ABC.

I started playing for Prem 2 in 2014 and was given the opportunity to play a few games for Prems. The following year I moved up to Prems and have played in the team since. My favourite memory of playing for ABC was when we won the Harbour championship in 2016.

The last two years I have not been able to play a full season with ABC as I have been studying in America at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia on a Hockey scholarship. This has been an amazing opportunity to study and play hockey overseas, but I still always love to come home and play for ABC. I look forward to playing more games for ABC and creating more memories and hopefully winning more championships."
